Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' is a rare succulent belonging to the Crassula genus within the Crassulaceae family. Native to the rocky, arid regions of South Africa, it evolved to thrive in well-drained soils with plenty of sun and very little water. This slow growing succulent has earned serious collector status worldwide, and it is genuinely exciting to find one available for sale.
What makes Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' instantly recognizable is its tightly stacked, geometric leaf pairs that form a neat upright column, earning its reputation as a true architectural succulent. The fleshy leaves are pale silvery-green to ivory, coated in a fine powdery texture that gives the plant an almost sculptural, frosted appearance. As it matures, Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' develops a clustering habit, producing offsets that fill a pot with orderly, tower-like columns.
Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' can produce small, pale flower clusters at the tips of its columns, typically encouraged by a nighttime temperature drop in late winter or early spring. Blooming is infrequent and considered a bonus rather than a guarantee, but when it does flower, it adds a delicate finishing touch to an already striking plant. Beyond flowers, this stacked crassula stands out purely on foliage alone, making it a year-round conversation piece.
Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' is wonderfully low maintenance indoors, tolerating dry heated air and surviving happily through a 10-day trip without a sitter. It can move outside for summer in a sheltered spot, though it needs cover from rain to prevent rot. Cats, dogs, and small children should be kept well away from this plant since contact with the sap can cause skin and paw irritation, and it should never be nibbled or eaten. Keep Crassula 'Ivory Pagoda' on a high shelf where little hands and curious pets cannot reach it, and rotate it occasionally so every side gets even light exposure.
